John Kelly (Metropolitan) & Barry Webb (Yarrawonga) claim Alpine Senior Masters titles after the second & final round was abandoned today.

A wet, stormy morning across the state forced initial suspension of play of the second round of the Alpine Senior Masters being played at Bright Country Golf Club. With threating storms approaching for the North West a decision was made on reducing the event to one round. Heavy rains shortly followed making the course also unplayable.

The reduction didn’t upset Metropolitan member John Kelly who fired the best round yesterday with an even par 72. The 1979 Australian Amateur Champion, and former Pro, mentioned that his short game was respectable.

“I holed a lot of 4-5 foot putts. I had a good stroke going”. Kelly mentioned.

Meanwhile in the nett section, it was Yarrawonga local Barry Webb taking the honours after carding a fine 67 in round one. Barry makes his way back into the winners circle after this impressive performance.

Bright Country Golf Club are to be congratulated on yet again providing wonderful facilities to all players. Players were greeted with a fantastic BBQ Tournament Dinner last night and cooked breakfast this morning. Next stop is the Mornington Peninsula Senior Amateur to be played at Flinders & Portsea Golf Clubs on Monday 21- Tuesday 22 March.
