It wasn’t vintage Karrie Webb, but it’s getting closer.
The champion Queenslander fired a second consecutive 69 overnight to move quietly into the mix to win her second British Women’s Open title.
Her -6 total at the midway point left Webb T8 amid a bunch of hot scoring around her, including two other previous champions Catriona Mathew (65) and Mo Martin (68).
But the lead remained unchanged with first-round flyer Mirim Lee firing a 71 to reach 11 under, one clear of China’s Shanshan Feng and Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn in T2.
Sarah Jane Smith, also of Queensland, fired up the leaderboard early in her second round and reached eight under before five bogeys in eight holes sent her in the wrong direction.
But Smith regained her composure with two late birdies to finish square for her round and still well in the hunt at four under.
Minjee Lee mixed three birdies against four bogeys in another erratic round to finish even par overall, while Su Oh made the +1 cut on the number after an even-par 72.
Rebecca Artis fired a 74 to miss the weekend at five over, while Stacey Keating packed up early after a 77 left her 11 over.
