Webb starts weekend in running

Australia's Karrie Webb is still in contention after two rounds of the HSBC Champions tournament in Singapore.

Webb carded a second-round 70 to go with her opening 68 at Sentosa Golf Club to go into the weekend three shots from the lead, held by Carlota Ciganda of Spain and world No. 2 Inbee Park of South Korea.

World No. 1 Lydia Ko also is in the running at six-under par through two rounds, just two shots from the lead.

The 40-year-old Webb is a fixture on the leaderboard in Singapore, where she won the tournament in 2011 and finished third last year.

She was just a shot from the lead when she made the second of two consecutive birdies at the 12th hole in the second round, but a bogey at the 13th and then a run of pars saw her slide to a tie for fourth in the no-cut tournament.

The other Australian in the elite field, 18-year-old rookie professional Minjee Lee, had one bad hole to blame for her second-round 73.

Lee took a triple bogey seven at the par-four 10th hole after she had made two early birdies to climb on to the leaderboard; in the end she was tied for 23rd at one-under par, eight shots from the lead.

The Western Australian, who is a member of Golf Australia's rookie squad of young professionals, has made a sound start to her first full season on the LPGA Tour.
