Visit the Karrie Webb Series webpage Victorian Stacey Keating and Western Australian Jessica Speechley have arrived in Oakmont, Pennsylvania to meet up with World Number 9 Karrie Webb for the 2010 US Women’s Open at Oakmont Country Club. As recipients of the Karrie Webb Series scholarships, Keating and Speechley will shadow Webb during championship week and use the experience to benefit their elite amateur and future professional careers. Webb, the 2000 and 2001 US Women’s Open champion, said the scholarship was an important opportunity in the development of young female golfers in Australia. I always look forward to having the girls join me at the third major of the year, Webb said. I think it is valuable to give them an opportunity to develop as individuals and give them first-hand experience of a major championship and everything that goes with it. I enjoy being able to assist in the development of Australia s elite amateurs through my work with Golf Australia on the Karrie Webb Series, Webb added. Keating and Speechley have both recently completed a tour of the United Kingdom playing in England, Ireland and Scotland before travelling to the United States. For me, last year was a real eye opener about how much they all taper off their practice and try to conserve all their energy for the week by not cramming in all the practice possible, Keating said. Speechley said the experience would give her valuable insights into the professional ranks. It’s going to be such a great week. I know I&aposll learn a lot and I think I&aposll see a step closer than most on how Karrie deals with playing a major event including tournament preparation and media, Speechley said. The Karrie Webb Scholarships are awarded annually to two women on the basis of the following criteria: performance in the Karrie Webb Series events, community work supported by the individual (either inside or outside of golf), performance as an ambassador for golf in Australia and overseas, exhibits outstanding demeanour both on and off the golf course and is an Australian citizen.
