Webb Within Strike of Choi

A 40 foot birdie putt on her final hole late yesterday, has given Karrie Webb a chance of capturing her 38th LPGA title today at the Sime Darby LPGA in Malaysia.

rn

Webb carded a three-under-par 68 in the weather interrupted third round at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.

rn

The field had to endure a four hour weather delay, which started when play was suspended at 10.17 am local time due to lighting in the area and resumed at 2.31 pm.  For the third time in two years, the lights at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club were turned on to help players finish their rounds.

Rolex Rankings No. 4 and defending champ Na Yeon Choi (@nychoi87) will take a two-shot lead into today’s final round.

rn

Choi held only a one-shot lead with one round to play a year ago when she clinched her in win in Kuala Lumpur. The South Korean shot 3-under 68 to move to 13-under, two strokes ahead of Rolex Rankings No. 6 Inbee Park. Park, who leads the Tour’s money list this season, tied the low round of the day of 6-under 65 to move her to 11-under for the tournament.

rn

Choi is looking to record her second victory of the season, after she earned her first major win at the U.S. Women’s Open in July. Despite over a four hour rain delay, Choi managed to tally four birdies and one bogey on the par 4 10th.

rn

Webb carded five birdies and two bogeys in her round of 68 and sits in solo third at 9-under par.  After her round the 37-year-old was asked how she feels about her position heading into the final round,

rn

“Yeah, I feel great about it. The putt on the last gets me that little bit closer. Then again, it will depend on where Na Yeon finishes. But, you know, I think anyone four or five shots back has a shot tomorrow.”

rn

Asked if she has a score in mind, say six-under, for tomorrow she responded “I don&apost really set a score. You shoot 6 under, if that&aposs what you set, that&aposs a great round, but it might not be enough.”

rn

“I don&apost mentally set a score. I just go out, try to shoot as low as I can. Hopefully that&aposs enough. I don&apost know if I&aposll be in the last group or not. If I am, at least I&aposll know how Na Yeon is playing.”

rn

Japan’s Ai Miyazato and Norway’s Suzann Pettersen share fourth place just a further shot back.  American Paula Creamer, Scotland’s Catriona Matthew and Japan’s Mika Miyazato sit at seven-under-par.

rn

Lindsey Wright is the next best placed Australian, she is tied for 10th at five-under-par after a 72.  Wright couldn’t convert her great iron play in the third round, if she can get the putter going in the final round, she will certainly finish well inside the top 10.

rn

Katherine Hull is the final Australian in the limited field event, she will start the day in tied for 41st at two-over-par.
