Wee Waa Golf Club members have every reason to smile after the NSW Government kicked in $500,000 for a major upgrade of their golf course.
Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries said the project would include construction of a new fairway and an automatic greens irrigation system to water the course efficiently.
“I welcome our Government’s support for this extensive upgrade which will modernise the golf course and encourage more people in the local community to learn and play the sport,” Mr Humphries told the Moree Champion newspaper.
“The project has been made possible through Liquor & Gaming NSW’s Club grants infrastructure funding, which supports new and upgraded sport and recreation facilities in local communities across NSW.”
The new automatic irrigation system will make the course more functional and free up volunteers to spend their time on other activities, such as promoting the junior golf program.
“Golfers are currently playing on dirt fairways because of low annual rainfall and a lack of irrigation facilities,” he said.
“The upgrade will also help Wee Waa Golf Club extend its junior playing and coaching program and give local indigenous youth more opportunities to get involved in the sport.”
Minister for Racing Paul Toole said the project is one of 11 across NSW funded from the Club grants Category three sports and recreation fund in 2016/17.
The successful recipients were selected from more than 400 applicants.
