Weekley ends five-year title drought

Boo Weekley has overhauled Matt Kuchar on the final day of the Crowne Plaza Invitational with a four-under 66 to win his first title since 2008. Weekley finished his front nine with two birdies to move ahead of 34-year-old Kuchar and then added another two more on the run home to finish on 14 under for the tournament and win the tartan jacket at the Colonial Country Club. Kuchar kept the pressure on Weekley with a birdie on the 12th hole but despite another on the 18th, finished a shot behind the eventual champion with a two-under 68, while Zach Johnson (66) claimed third on 12 under overall. Scott Stallings, John Rollins and Matt Every finished in a tie for fourth on 11 under, while Stuart Appleby and Marc Leishman were the highest-placed Australians at one under overall. Weekley jumped ahead of Kuchar early on Sunday, birdying the first and third holes, but bogeys on the fifth and seventh saw the 39-year-old American slip back to second. However, an impressive run of four birdies in six holes starting on the eighth saw Weekley take control in Fort Worth, Texas, and although Kuchar managed two birdies on the back nine, it was not enough to take victory. Weekley lifted his first professional trophy since he took out the Verizon Heritage (now known as the RBC Heritage) in April 2008.
