Welcome to the outback

The inaugural event, presented by Golf Australia, partnered by PGA and funded under the Year of Outback Tourism 2019, teed off today at Roma Golf Club. The event, which is the first of six across the weeks, was opened in style by eager local junior golfers. Celebrations will continue into the night with live entertainment including a traditional welcome to country and smoke ceremony from Rodney Landers, Bush Poet Marco Gliori and The Pigs band.

“Today has been a great way to start the Outback Queensland Masters,” said Golf Australia Queensland State Manager, Luke Bates.

“Due to the success of the first day, we have had many players book in for the next event in Charleville this weekend.”

At the conclusion of today’s nine holes at Roma, John Palk leads the men’s field with 21 points, while Kathy Beck leads the women’s event with 19 points.

“I have met a lot of great people today and yesterday,” said Palk. “I am really happy I signed up. I started off playing good with some good preparation.

“It’s a great way to get people out (of city courses) and really good for the country clubs.”

Round two tee times commence from 10am tomorrow.
