Greg Welsh of Colac GC has taken out the first senior event of the 2018 calendar at Sorrento Golf Club.

Welsh carded 2 rounds of 73 to win the title by 1 shot from Rob Wallace of Midlands. Conditions were again very pleasant for the field today albeit the quick shower that came through mid morning.

The nett title was won by Sebastian Myer of Commonwealth. The 13-marker returned a nett total of 136 which included an impressive nett 67 today to win on a second round count-back from Andy Buxton of Royal Melbourne.

The Sorrento Senior Amateur is also the home of the Victorian Senior Club Team’s Championship, in which teams of three players from a nominated club have their aggregate gross and nett totals for the two-rounds put towards a team score.

The gross title was claimed by The National #1 team of Guy Krall, Pat Giles and John Wheeler combining well for a team total of 478 and taking home the perpetual cup. 2 shots back and finishing in second place was Pancho DeNeefe, Stephen Valentine and Peter Sherwen from Kew Golf Club who couldn’t quite repeat their victory of last year.

The Metropolitan #2 team consisting of Denis Long, Paul Bray and Steve Enright took out the nett teams title on a combined score of 438. Denis Long was thrilled to be holding the trophy for the second time since the induction of the event in 2007. The trio finished 2 shots clear of Mark Aberayatne, Tony Gunn and David Dowdle from Peninsula-Kingswood.
