Welshpool have held onto their overnight lead in the final round to win the Victorian Men’s Country Teams Championship at Axedale today. The trio had a final round stableford aggregate total of 95 for a 286 total to defeated Timboon by 8 shots. Graeme Brennan was the star of the team which also consisted of Alan Hayes and Bob Easton, returning individual rounds of 38, 31 and 35 Brennan put the team well into contention early.
In the individual events, the best 54-hole total was Hamish Huffadine (Timboon) with a total of 100 points, Phil Lane (Lang Lang) was the 36-hole winner with a total of 68 points for his rounds on Saturday, while Peter Cashmore (Timboon) obtained the 18 Hole event (Sunday’s round) with 36 points.
A special thanks and congratulations to the Axedale Golf Club and the many members that volunteered their time over the weekend to give the players the best experience possible at this years’ Championships.
The Championship, which is arguably one of the most enjoyable events on the calendar, will make its way to Mansfield in 2017.
