Wet and wild start to dual events at Concord

Sydney, Australia: Wayne Grady is among three players sharing the lead at the Handa Australian Senior Open while Patty Rizzo is outright leader by one stroke from Elaine Crosby in the Women&aposs World Legends Tour Open Championship at Concord Golf Club in Sydney. In a rain and storm interrupted day, Grady turned back the clock to shoot a 69. The evergreen Aussie was even through the turn and picked up back-to-back birdies on 13 and 14 to claim a share of the lead after day one. Joining Grady at the head of the leaderboard is New South Welshman David Merriman and Englishman Bill Longmuir. Both players performed well in tricky conditions to post 69&aposs and hold a three-stroke advantage over third placed Greg Hohnen going into round two. With overcast skies above, the weather was always threatening to dictate terms and at just before 10am it came bucketing down. With lightning in the area, all players were promptly forced from the lush fairways of Concord Golf Club. The action resumed two hours later and despite dropping a stroke early on, Rizzo didn t take long to find her form. A magnificent birdie at 10 brought her back to even before the American went sub-par with more birdies on the following two holes to rocket into the lead. Play was suspended once more at 4:30pm due to the weather and players were forced back to the clubhouse for another hour. Longmuir left the course knowing that a testing birdie putt was waiting for him when he returned to the 16th. As it was, the Englishman made the putt and came home with two pars to snatch a share of the lead. A total of 36 players across both competitions remain on the course and will return on Saturday morning to finish their rounds from 9am before heading straight back out for round two.
