Whitney Hillier blog: Early starts and storms in the US

Whitney Hillier writes: I played my third and last Callaway Junior World Championships this week at Carlton Oaks in San Diego. I had rounds of 76, 78, 75 and 77. I was actually pretty happy with the way I played, I was hitting the ball pretty solidly but just couldn’t hole any putts and the greens were small so it was easy to miss them- it was a good test for my short game. In my opinion, Carlton Oaks was a more challenging course than the North course at Torrey Pines which was the previous course in past years. I really enjoyed the experience and played with a lot of international players so it was good fun. I am currently in Connecticut for the US Girls Junior Championships held at Hartford Golf Club. It is amazing here – I feel like a professional. The players get so spoilt and everything is provided plus we get to play on such a beautiful course with pure fast greens. I finished Junior World on Friday and had to wake up at 3.30am the next day to get to Connecticut; it took all day to get to Hartford and just made it to the Welcome Party. On Sunday I had my practice round and I only ended up playing 15 holes and the course got closed due to thunder and lightning in the area. The first round was played on July 21st. We were picked up in a Chevrolet limo bus with leather seats so it was nice to travel in style! I played early in the morning which was good because there is so much humidity but I could have had a late start today and catch up on some sleep! I had 75 (+4) and there is one more round qualifying tomorrow then match play. The leader shot 67 (-4) today and Morgan Pressel s sister shot 69 (-2) so there has been some awesome scoring. My driver cost me a few shots today but my irons and putting were solid so hopefully it s a better day tomorrow!
