Wilkinson rockets into contention

Kiwi Tim Wilkinson produced the best round of the day to move up to second place after three rounds of the Verizon Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links in South Carolina. Wilkinson shot four consecutive birdies from the sixth to ninth hole on his way to a six-under-par 65. Despite the amazing round, he still trails Brian Gay by three strokes after the American continued his fine form with a four-under 67 to take him to 13-under overall. Aaron Baddeley, Nick O&aposHern and Rod Pampling are the best placed Australians in a tie for 18th place at three-under after mixed rounds. Pampling struggled his way to a three-over 74, while Baddeley and O&aposHern both soared up the leaderboard with a 67 and 68 respectively. Nathan Green and Peter Lonard are a shot behind their compatriots, with Stephen Leaney, Aron Price and Mathew Goggin languishing down the bottom end of the leaderboard. Former Open champion Todd Hamilton, who began the day a shot behind Gay on eight-under, signed for a level 71 to slip to fourth place heading into the final round. Fellow Americans Briny Baird (65) and Davis Love III (69) lie in a tie for fifth, while Tim Petrovic, Tom Lehman and Germany&aposs Alex Cejka are tied for seventh on six-under. Luke Donald, who also shot a six-under-par 65, is one of three players tied for 10th place on five under alongside Argentina&aposs Jose Coceres and Bob Estes, while Spain&aposs Jose Maria Olazabal is at four under following a third round 70. Ernie Els took a six at the par-four ninth and a seven at the par-five 15th on the way to a 73, while Paul Casey finished on a high note with an eagle three at the 15th to help him to a 69 and take the Englishman to one under with the South African. Meanwhile, Australian Ashley Hall is in a tie for third place heading into the final round of the China Open. Hall carded a scintillating seven-under-par 65 to rocket into contention and just three shots behind Richard Finch, who is at eight-under overall. It has been a good performance so far for the Australasian contingent with Scott Strange is a shot behind Hall in a tie for fifth and David McKenzie and Kiwi Mark Brown another shot back at three-under. Aaron Townsend is also in the hunt at two-under, while David Gleeson is at even-par.
