Will young guns continue surge at NSW PGA?

Amateurs have upstaged the professionals in recent weeks on the PGA Tour of Australasia and the action moves to this week s NSW PGA Championship at Mt. Broughton Golf and Country Club. National Squad members Ricky Kato and Brett Drewitt join NSW state players Jordan Zunic and Dimi Papadatos among 16 amateurs in the field in the South Highlands of NSW. Recently turned professionals Matt Stieger, Daniel Nisbet and Ryan McCarthy are also in the field as is NZ Open champion Jake Higginbottom Rookie Squad member Matt Griffin is looking for a strong finish on OneAsia to guarantee him an exemption through to the final stage of US PGA Tour Qualifying School. My goal now is to finish the year strong and win the OneAsia Order of Merit. If I can do that my Australian ranking will ensure I get to final stage and won t need to play second. With the NSW PGA Championship the first hurdle, Griffin will take on the likes of Craig Parry and fellow 2012 OneAsia champion Nick Cullen. Also in the field are Won Joon Lee, Bradley Hughes, Mitch Brown, Marcus Cain and US Open qualifier Anthony Summers.
