Wilson trails Viitakangas at Master of the Amateurs

Steady play has given Queensland golfer Simon Viitakangas a one shot lead after the second round of the 2014 Australian Master of the Amateurs Championship. The sun shone on Royal Melbourne Golf Club today in stark contrast to cool temperatures and gusty winds of yesterday, but it was just another day at the office for the 21 year old who has carded rounds of two under on both days. Just one shot back is the leading international, 21 year old Cameron Wilson from Connecticut. He obviously enjoyed today s warmer weather, improving three shots on his first round. Ten countries are represented in this field of 53 elite amateurs; their handicaps range from zero and plus 6. Holding third place tonight is another Gold Coast amateur Corey Crawford. He is one shot ahead of five players all one under after two rounds: American Max Buckley, New Zealander Tyler Hodge and Australians Todd Sinnott, Daniel Hoeve and James Gibellini. A warmer day is forecast for round three of this championship which tees off at 8.30 tomorrow morning and admission to Royal Melbourne is again free.
