Winners are grinners at Northern

It was yet another busy day for the regular instalment of the Rookie Series event played each July at Northern Golf Club. Like pervious years, it once again proved to be a crowd favourite with 50 players taking to the front nine this morning in the calm and overcast conditions.

Brother’s Eric and William Li took home the under 12 and under 9 boys titles respectively. Eric fired the low round of the day with a level par 36 while his younger brother carded a solid score of 38. Taegen Dodds was equally impressive when he walked home with the under 12 boys nett title following his round of 24.  Rookie regular James Murto was awarded the nett prize in the under 9 boys with a score of 30.

Sophie Mann finished a single shot clear of Zara Shinn-Mahoney to capture the under 12 girls section closing with 42. Amelia Goodwin prevailed on a count-back for the handicap title in the under 12 girls. After finishing runner-up in the last Rookie event at Edithvale, Nicolette Papadatos was poised proudly on top of the leaderbaord in the under 9 girls with 47 while Abby Moule was the handicap winner with 37.

The smooth swinging Rose Britt was too good in the under 16 girls, finishing just one clear of Aleisha Hannam-Lewis. After just missing out on the gross prize Aleisha walked home victorious in the nett component. Noah Patterson closed with 39 for top spot in the under 16 boys while Corben Leong carded 33 for the handicap honours.
