Winners crowned at the Dunes

The Cups course was host to today’s Rookie Series at the magnificent Dunes Golf Links.

Conditions were simply perfect, the sun was shining brightly, and the mercury reached into the mid 20’s as the afternoon unveiled itself.

With her very first shot of the day, Billie Tate aced the 119m par-3 first hole with a perfectly struck iron shot.

Her first hole would be the catalyst for the day as she cruised to a round of 41 gross to take home the under 12 girls gross title. An impressive 23 nett shots secured Seabil Leong the nett medallion.

In the under 12 boys, Rupert Toomey carded a level par 33 for the honours comprising of 2 birdies, 2 bogeys and 5 pars.

Close on his heels was 2017 Victorian Primary School Champion Harrison Gomez who closed with 34 today. Anthony Arce was too good in the nett notching up a mere 24 shots from his 13 handicap.

It was a tussle in the under 9 boys with some great scores returned however none were better than Samuel Snelgar who managed his way around the tricky layout with a round of 36 for top spot on the podium.

A count-back was needed to sperate Jonny Papadatos and Rehan Pervaiz who tied on 30 nett. In the end Jonny walked away victorious but Rehan still claimed the gross runner-up prize.

Young gun Arena Tran won the under 9 girls with 46 this afternoon while Jonny Papadatos’ sister, Nicolette, was awarded the best nett score matching her brothers round of 30.

Portia Hall was too good in the under 16 girls with a very tidy round of 37 for a barnstorming victory by 10 shots. Lefty Ainsley Pho was awarded the handicap sector prize with a score of 32 nett.

Corben Leong joined his little sister on the winners list with a win in the under 16 boys following a round of 37.

In his first Rookie event for the year Kai Rogerson proved too good signing for a round of 26 nett for the handicap honours in the under 16 boys.
