Winners shine through at Leongatha

Jeff Hasthorpe (Trafalgar) has beaten the overnight leader Peter Bence (Peninsula-Kingswood) on a count-back to claim the 2015 Leongatha Men’s Senior Amateur. Hasthorpe fired a 76 today (against Bence’s 79) for a two-round total of 156. Players were forced to take their umbrellas out of the car today as showers blew across from the west. Showers lingered all day, with heavy rain making a brief appearance in the middle of the round.

The nett section was also tightly contested, with local member David Forbes edging out Gary House (Sanctuary Lakes) by a mere shot. The Leongatha member carded a 36-hole nett total of 145, with consistent rounds of nett 72 and 73.

Catherine Pearce (Sandhurst) took home Women’s Handicap Champion title with 55 points, after overnight leader Maryanne Elson was awarded the Scratch Champion title. The pair both scored 29 points today to take home each title. Elson capitalised on her overnight lead to finish with 46 scratch stableford points. Runners-up in the stableford and scratch stableford events respectively were Trish Barr (The National) and Janine Foot (Sandhurst).

The seniors now move on to the Warragul Senior Amateur this Thursday 21 and Friday 22 May.
