The Golf SA Women's A1 Pennant season will commence on Sunday 31st May, with the Women’s top grade being played at The Grange Golf Club.
The following grades have already commenced with the team in brackets currently sitting top of the table: Women's A2 (Grange), A3 (Thaxted Park), Cleek 1 (Kooyonga) and Cleek 2 (The Stirling).
Women's A1 is a 6 team Competition, played over a 5 round season (each team plays each other once). The top 2 teams after 5 rounds, play off in the Final on Sunday 12th July at Kooyonga Golf Club.
After three titles in a row, Glenelg is expected to once again proceed through the season unscathed and progress to the final. Number one Jenny Lee who is undefeated in her past 13 matches (12w / 1sq) her last loss being to Emma Ash Rd 4 2012, is highly likely to go through the season undefeated. Glenelg need to capitalise on such form as it may be Lee’s final season prior to turning professional. If experienced former state players Elysia Yap, Josie Hodge and Sophie James can find form in the minor round, they will only need three players at their best on 12 July.
Glenelg Team Manager Cathy Johnson believes the team will be right in the mix again.
“Glenelg Golf Club’s A1 Women won their third title in a row last year and our goal this year is to successfully defend our Championship. State Captain Jenny Lee, Elysia Yap and stalwart Jill Hodge all return this year to defend their title. We are thrilled to welcome Sophie James and Josie Hodge back to strengthen a very competitive squad, which also includes junior state member Mathilda Wheare, Sarah Crocker (nee Griffiths – undefeated in 2014), Jess Burns and Samantha White.” Cathy Johnson said.
The Grange runner up last season, is unquestionably the strongest team on paper in this year’s competition with five state team members. They should definitely make it through to this year’s final and if their young players can hold it together they will claim their first flag since 2004.
“The Grange Golf Club Ladies A1 Team has an impressive line-up of players for the 2015 season. Five of the six Grange players are in the State team and have performed well in the lead up to the Pennant season. Caitlin Roberts – Team Captain, an experienced Pennant player, will lead the Grange team for the first time in 2015. The other team members are, The Grange Ladies Club Champion – Ella Adams, Cassidy Evreniadis, Wei-Jean Foo, Kristalle Blum and Jin-Young Yun. The players have gained valuable experience in the past 12 months and are committed to the team and The Grange Golf Club, and expect to provide a very competitive competition.“ Co-Team Manager Belinda Singleton said
