Women’s British Open arrives at the Home of Golf

The Women&aposs British Open is underway for the first ever time at St Andrews Links in Scotland. It is the first women&aposs tournament to be staged at the historic Old Links and America&aposs Sherri Steinhauer will aim to win back-to-back titles in Britain like she accomplished in 1998-99, before the event was handed Major classification. However 149 of the world&aposs best golfers will stand in her way throughout the next four days. Players like Karrie Webb, Annikia Sorenstam, Laura Davies, world number one Lorena Ochoa and glamour girl Natalie Gulbis who broke through for her maiden victory last week at the Evian Masters in France. The Aussie charge will be led by Webb, but also includes Nikki Garrett who is fast becoming a household name after her two LET title wins earlier this year. Sarah Kemp will also be representing Australia, as will Wendy Doolan, Rachel Hetherington, Katherine Hull, Joanne Mills, Anna Rawson, Rebecca Stevenson and Lindsey Wright who had a superb run at the recent World Women&aposs Match Play in the US. This LPGA season has thrown up more than a few surprises with 15 different players taking out the 18 events held to date. The winner this week will not only claim the prestigious title at the Home of Golf, but they will also receive an exemption into the season-ending ADT Championship, Samsung World Championship and Tournament of Champions.
