The first of Golf Australia s 2011 national amateur championships commences on Friday with the Australian Women’s Amateur Foursomes Championship at Riversdale Golf Club. With a first-class Australian field, the scoring is sure to be impressive over the 36-holes. Queensland pair Ashley Ona and Courtney Massey will be among the favourites, along with Jessica Speechley and Rhianna Davies from WA, Ebony Heard and Emma Ash from SA, and Adriana Brent and Allyce Watkinson from NSW. In total, 25 pairs will fight it out for the Nance Marriott Salvers. With Riversdale Golf Club having been the home of the Australian Women’s Foursomes since 2008, the event sees the nation s best players compete, leading up to the Riversdale Cup commencing in the days immediately following the Championship. The Australian Women’s Foursomes Championship begins an exciting year of amateur championships, with the Australian Men’sFoursomes following on 9 March. Australia s oldest golf championships, the Srixon Australian Amateur Championships follow in mid March, with the Junior Championships in April. Championships for Australia s Senior and Mid amateurs are played later in the year, with the Interstate Teams Matches Australia s pinnacle Teams Championships, scheduled in Perth in September.
