The 2007 Australian Amateur Championships get underway this morning when a strong field of 32 women tee off from 11:00am at New South Wales Golf Club, Sydney. There was a four way tie at the top of the women&aposs 36-hole qualifying event played at Terrey Hills on the weekend. Sarah Oh, Sheree Hasson, Stacey Keating and Bianca Mathiou all shot 143 to gain automatic entry into the match play draw. Joining them in equal fifth is National Squad member Frances Bondad. The 19-year old won last month&aposs Australian Women&aposs Amateur Stroke Play at Indooroopilly and will be keen to add the national match play title to her growing list of accomplishments. Her National Squad team mates Kate Combes and Bree Arthur join her as successful qualifiers, as do Emma Bennett, Kristie Smith and Stephanie Na who recently returned from representing Australia at the Queen Sirikit Cup in the Philippines. The 2007 Australian Amateur Championships mark the first ever time that men and women have played alongside each other on the fairways. However, due to Sunday&aposs bad weather, the men will play the final round of their stroke play qualifier today and the top 32 will commence the match play at 7:00am Tuesday morning. This will be followed by the second round of the women&aposs match play at approximately 9:30am and the men will play their second round later in the afternoon to make up for Sunday&aposs lost time.
