Women’s Open tops in Adelaide

The ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open has been recognised as South Australia’s finest major event of 2017.

The national championship beat out a swag of other great contenders on a packed South Australian events calendar.

Golf Australia chief executive Stephen Pitt was thrilled the tournament had been given such high recognition at the annual Sport SA Awards night.

“There are so many great events running around South Australia throughout the year, so we were delighted to have been recognised as best among them,” Pitt said.

“We have worked really hard with our partners at the Events South Australia to ensure not only a great golf tournament, but a destination event that attracts visitors from around Australia and the world.

“The South Australian Government has made it plain that they value women’s sport and their support has made it possible for us to bring a truly world-class event to Adelaide.

“We are very proud of this honour.”

Korean Ha Na Jang, who recently committed to defending her title in 2018, stormed home with a withering finish to win the Patricia Bridges Bowl at Royal Adelaide in February.

Her dynamic finish and vivid personality had crowds around the famous club roaring her name and the superb atmosphere stretched across the course.

Golf Australia, in conjunction with tournament sanctioning partner the LPGA Tour, strive to have as many in the world’s top 50 players at the annual event. It is the strongest field, by world rankings, of any annual golf event in Australia.

The 2018 ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open will be staged at nearby Kooyonga Golf Club, host to many great tournaments throughout the years.

Tickets are on sale now and available via Ticketek – www.ticketek.com.au with more player details to be confirmed in coming days and weeks.

Next year’s event will again be aired live on ABC Television.
