Women’s Pennant Finals Delayed

Despite considerable rainfall at the weekend, division one of the Tasmanian Women’s Pennant Finals got underway on Sunday at North West Bay Golf Club.

 

The ladies from Ulverstone defeated Claremont Golf Club 3½-1½ matches in the morning’s preliminary final.

 

For Ulverstone, Sarah Johnstone defeated Sue Frith 2up, Dianne Woodhouse beat Nancy Hoskinson 4&2 and Karen Ashley bested Jane Bliss 6&5.

 

Beth Wagner was successful for Claremont defeating state team member Sharon Crowden 2&1.

 

Rosemary Paton and Sharon James-Wood squared their number three match to complete the result for Ulverstone.

 

The division one final between Ulverstone and Riverside was abandoned Sunday afternoon and has been rescheduled for Devonport Golf Club on June 19.

 

In other morning matches, Richmond defeated Thirlstane 4-1 to set up a division two showdown with Claremont who overcame Greens Beach 3-2.

 

While in division three, New Town Bay defeated Prospect Vale 4-1 and Ulverstone beat Claremont by the same margin after the matches were reduced to nine holes.

 

The only champions declared over the weekend of wet weather were the Seabrook division four team who defeated Kingston Beach 3-2 in rain reduced final.

 

After nine holes Georgette Chilcott defeated Patricia Dixon 3up, Yvonne Lawrence beat Pru Christie 5up and Kuniko Jamieson overcame Trish Parnham 1up.

 

Jean Samec and Annette Hodgetts were victorious for Kingston Beach defeating Maryanne Dalton and Ruth Sawford 2up and 3up respectively.

 

Due to the continuing weather conditions the North West Bay Golf Course was closed for the division two and three finals on Monday.

 

The finals have been rescheduled and division two’s finalists Richmond and Claremont will meet on July 5 at North West Bay Golf Club.

 

While New Town Bay and Ulverstone will meet at Campbell Town Golf Club on June 28 to decide the division three champions.
