Women’s Senior and Mid ready for Fremantle

The fields are set for the 2009 Australian Women’s Senior and Mid Amateur Championships to commence next week at Royal Fremantle Golf Club. The Senior s Championship commences on Monday, with 36-holes of grueling stroke play, with the leading 16 players qualifying for the match play rounds of the Championship. The leading 8 players from three age flights will also qualifying for the match play rounds. The Women’s Mid Amateur players contest 54-holes stroke play starting on Wednesday, with both events concluding on Friday lunchtime. Both Championships have a stellar field. In the Mid Amateur Championship, both the 2007 and 2008 champions will return Julie Swanson from NSW and Tammy Hall from Tasmania respectively. They will be joined by local favourite Sharon Dawson, and Victorian State Team Member Sue Wooster. The Women’s Senior field is just as impressive, with five time winner Sylvia Donohoe from NSW making the trip to Perth. She will be joined by last year s runner up from Royal Canberra, Liz Smyth, with the local favourite and last year s semi-finalist Ros Fisher also sure to impress. Players will enjoy a Cocktail Party on Tuesday evening and will be joined by Judy Francis the winner of the second ever Australian Women’s Senior Amateur in 1988. The event is one of the only times the players get together in the year to enjoy the camaraderie.
