Australian No.1 Hannah Green was delighted to march off Metropolitan a winner tonight as darkness fell on a marathon day of the Australian Amateur Championship.
The Mt Lawley ace hurried in fading light at Metropolitan and toppled South Australian Kristalle Blum 5&4 just when they were considering postponing into Friday.
Four other women’s matches will wrap up from 8am tomorrow with two epic clashes effectively on sudden-death holes.
Olivia Kline won three consecutive holes from the 15th to have her match with youngster Gabi Ruffels all square on the 18th tee when they return.
Korean world No.94 Hyun-kyung Park and Queenslander Robyn Choi called a halt to their match when they were unable to be split through 19 holes.
Taiwanese ace Yu Sang Hou is all square with Finland’s Hannele Mikkola with four to play.
Queenslander Karis Davidson has Sydney’s Chizuru Ueda dormie 4-up when they resume on the 15th tee.
National squad member Green was confident in her game, saying she had played well and found herself in a good section of the matchplay draw.
She said there was no additional pressure with her impressive recent form and ranking.
“No, it’s nice, I suppose, but I don’t feel anything more than normal,” she said.
“I’m just glad to be able to get a full night’ sleep and not have to get up at 4.30am again like we did today.”
Heat, lightning and high winds brought an early suspension to Wednesday’s strokeplay round with half the field having to resume at 6.45am.
Green didn’t start her matchplay contest until 4.35pm this afternoon.
