Wong and Harrison take the honours

The final round of the Mornington Peninsula Junior Open was played today at the beautiful Sorrento Golf Club. Overcast and breezy conditions made for some challenging conditions early this morning around the undulating layout.

Huntingdale’s Jeneath Wong overcame a one-shot deficit over Ashni Solanki to take home the honours in the girl’s title. Wong started off hot with a birdie on the first hole to level the scores before taking a triple bogey on the par 3 second. A few late bogeys from Solanki on the outward nine saw Wong take the lead by a shot at the halfway mark. Solanki applied the pressure heading home to be running neck and neck but, in the end, the 13-year-old from Huntingdale was too strong and closed with a round of 75 to be crowned the 2018 champion by a single shot.

Jack Harrison (The National) also started the day one shot in arrears of the overnight leader, Phoenix Campbell, heading into today’s final round. It was an up and down round for the pair with several bogeys and birdies recorded throughout the day. However, Harrison held his nerve down the stretch to prevail by two shots following rounds of 72 and 74 for a tally of five over-par.

There were some amazing nett scores carded today but none better than the Dunes’ Josh Webb who reeled off an amazing 64 from his 11 handicap. Webb finished the tournament one shot better than Aaron Tran for the nett title.
