Woods cruises to victory at Firestone

Tiger Woods cruised to a seven-shot win at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational after carding an even-par 70 in the final round on Sunday. The American world number one coasted knowing pars were enough in the final round and he holed 16 of them to finish at 15 under at the Firestone Country Club. Woods has now won the event eight times matching the PGA Tour record he already shared for victories at a single tournament. The 37-year-old&aposs only blemish came at the par-four 14th hole, while he birdied the 10th, but was unchallenged overall. American Keegan Bradley and Swede Henrik Stenson shared second place at eight under, with a trio a further two shots behind. Americans Zach Johnson and Jason Dufner and Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez finished at six under in a tie for fourth. No player got within six shots of Woods during the final round, and the 79-time winner on the PGA Tour said he knew it would be tough for others to test him if he stayed consistent. “As blustery as it was, it was going to be really hard for someone to shoot 62 or 63,” Woods said. “If I didn&apost give any shots away and played my game and shot even par or better, I&aposd force these guys to go and shoot something super low on a golf course that wasn&apost going to give it up under these conditions.” Woods is within three PGA Tour victories of Sam Snead&aposs record of 82 and heads into the PGA Championship, which starts on Thursday, in fine form. He set up his win with a stunning nine-under 61 in the second round, when he looked set to shoot a magical 59. Adam Scott was the only Australian not to struggle, shooting a one-over 71 in the final round to finish at two under. Jason Day (70) ended up at eight over, four shots ahead of Brett Rumford (70). Daniel Popovic completed his poor showing with a 12-over 82, which included an eight at the par-five 16th, as he finished last at 34 over.
