World number four Tiger Woods is primed for return to the top at the British Open. Woods, who has regained fitness and form following a run of injuries and personal problems, can replace Luke Donald as the world number one by winning his 15th major crown, at Royal Lytham. The American has not won one of the big four tournaments since the 2008 US Open, but remains unfazed by his title drought. “I just try and put myself there,” Woods told a news conference. “I think that if I continue putting myself there enough times then I&aposll win major championships.” Woods, who is chasing the all-time record of 18 major titles won by Jack Nicklaus, begins his quest for a fourth British Open title on Thursday. “First of all I had to go through that whole process of just getting healthy again,” he said. “Being banged up and missing major championships because of it in a couple-year stretch there wasn&apost a whole lot of fun. “I missed four majors just because I was injured. I figure if I&aposm healthy, then I can prepare properly for major championships and I can get myself there.” Woods is the bookmakers&apos favourite to triumph at the Open, but expects to face stiff competition from an increasing wave of young contenders. “I think the fields are deeper, there&aposs no doubt,” he said. “We have to shoot some pretty low scores in general. You need to have a hot week at the right time. That&aposs what it comes down to. There are more guys now have a chance to win major championships than ever before.” In 16 majors since his 2008 win at Torrey Pines, Woods has missed four tournaments through injury, twice missed the cut, finished outside the top 20 four times, and has been placed inside the top six on six occasions.
