Tiger Woods has advanced to the final of the World Matchplay Championship after defeating Swede Henrik Stenson at the semi-final stage. The world No. 1 was never headed by Stenson as the pair halved the front nine before Woods gained the advantage with a birdie on the 10th. Stenson hit back to level the match with a clutch birdie putt on the 15th before Woods edged ahead again with a birdie on the par-5 17th. He went on to secure a 2-up victory after Stenson came up short on the final hole. It will be an all-American final after Stewart Cink downed Justin Leonard 3 and 2 in the other semi-final. After an even start, Cink broke clear by winning four of the last five holes down the front nine. Earlier in the day, Woods claimed a 3 and 2 victory over KJ Choi in their quarter-final encounter while Stenson came from behind to beat Woody Austin. In the other matches, Stewart Cink made eight birdies in his final 12 holes to post a comfortable three-and-two victory over Argentinian Angel Cabrera and Justin Leonard edged out Vijay Singh.
