Wooster, Hall set for titanic final

She shaped as the woman to beat at the Australian Women’s Senior Amateur and Sue Wooster showed precisely why today.

Wooster, fresh from a hugely successful tour of North America, stamped her authority on the field at Sandy Creek in South Australia, defeating former touring professional and fellow Victorian Jane Wall at the last hole in their morning quarter-final.

The four-time Australian mid-amateur champion then barely put a foot wrong in the afternoon semi-final, taking down down dual senior champion Jacqui Morgan 7&6.

“I was never down this morning against Jane, but it was a very close match all the way to the 18th,” Wooster said.

“In the afternoon I made a few birdies to keep the pressure on Jacqui and she missed a few shorts putts, which probably made the difference.”

But tomorrow’s final is far from a fait accompli, with Tasmanian Tammy Hall booking her shot at the title in impressive fashion also.

The Prospect Vale member, herself a former Australian mid-amateur champ, has shown continual improvement all week and won both her matches 3&2, with Victorian Helen Pascoe the victim in the quarter-final and medallist Kim Burke, of New South Wales, going down in the semi.

“I played well this morning and better this afternoon,” said Hall, whose semi-final win ensured there would be a new name on the trophy tomorrow night.

“I’m starting to get a feel for the course now after playing a few rounds here at Sandy Creek … my pitching was very good today and my short game was good overall.

“I’m thrilled to be in the final for the first time, now my third year at the (senior) championship.

“I will just go out and play the course tomorrow, not Sue. I’m sure it will be a tough match.”

The final is due to tee off tomorrow morning at 7.58am (South Australian time) and promises to be a great contest around the beautiful Barossa Valley layout.

The finals of the age flights will also be played in the morning with the following match-ups:
