The Australian squad members for the World Amateur Teams Championships might be in Sydney at the Interstate Teams Matches at the moment, but they d be forgiven for having one eye on October and a chance to take on the world. A fortnight ago, the Australian squads travelled to the Grange Golf Club in Adelaide and met up with the Mexican squads in preparation for the battle in October. Golf Australia Director of Elite National Development Peter Knight said it was a very productive few days. It went really well, Knight said. The spirit and pride in the camp was fantastic and it was great to get a practice run in against the Mexicans. The Adelaide trip involved national squad physios and other support staff to help the Australian players prepare for everything and anything- including the media and the expectations on the squads on home soil. A Mexican player was paired with each of the Australians for the practice rounds but scores were not kept. We saw it as a chance to have a solid round, get another run on the course and enjoy the company, Knight said. The New Zealand squad was spotted at Moonah Links last week with hotshot Danny Lee in attendance after becoming the youngest US Amateur champion since Tiger Woods.
