A full capacity field took to the Barwon Heads Golf Club today for the 2016 Victorian Family Championships.

Regular supporters of the event Stephen & Lee-Ann Day (Ballarat & Midlands) claimed the mixed section with a respectful Four-Ball Stableford score of 47 points. The husband & wife pair picked up three four-pointers giving them the title by one point from three other pairs, which included eventual Runners Up Sam & Louise Dawborn (Box Hill).

While misty morning rain looked to dampen the day, the players were greeted with pleasant afternoon sun and light winds.

Bettine & Sonia Hartley claimed the women’s section with 44 stableford points. The mother & daughter, both members at Peninsula-Kingswood, paired up for the first time to claim the women’s title by a comfortable 4 points. Noela & Kate Simpson (Cheltenham & Kooringal) picked up second place on a countback with 40 stableford points.

And in the men’s sector, it was Tom & Steve Blight, also from Peninsula-Kingswood, who outclassed their field with a score of 46 four-ball stableford points. Kevin & Daniel Whyley (Howlong & Royal Melbourne) were Runners Up after no success on a countback.

The Championship, which is open to amateurs and professionals who have an immediate family relationship (step-parents, adopted parents and de-facto inclusive), was introduced in 2004. With the support of Barwon Heads Golf Club, the event (State Final prior to 2011) has been played here since it’s inauguration.

Thanks were given to all involved at the Barwon Heads Golf Club for yet outstanding hospitality.
