Wright makes move into top 5 in Phoenix

Victorian Lindsey Wright fired a bogey free round of five-under-par 67 to move into the top five at the halfway point of the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup being played at the Wildlife Golf Club in Phoenix, Arizona. Wright will be chasing South Korean Jee Young Lee who sits atop of the leaderboard at 15-under-par after a superb eight-under-under, 64, which included four birdies on each nine. Lee leads by one over first round leader, Japan s Ai Miyazato, who backed up her LPGA career low round of nine-under-par with a very respectable 67 to be well positioned heading into the weekend. One of the players Lee and Miyazato will be watching is American Stacy Lewis, who is poised to make a move at 11-under-par after carding a 65 in the second round. Lewis will go to number one on the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings if she can win this week and current No.1 Yani Tseng finishes third place or worse. Wright is at nine-under-par total and shares fourth position with Americans Danielle Kang (67) and Gerina Piller (69), Taiwan s Candie Kung (69) and South Korean Amy Yang (67). The highlight of Wright s round was when she holed out from 98 yards for an eagle on the par 4, 13th. The 33-year-old also posted birdies on the 5th, 11th and 13th holes. Katherine Hull-Kirk is the next best placed Australian. Hull-Kirk, who started the day tied for seventh, signed for a two-under-par to be at seven-under-par total and shares 14th position. Queensland s Karrie Webb shot a three-under-par, 69, which included an unfortunate bogey on her last hole, to finish at five-under and is tied for 35th, while New South Wales Sarah Kemp posted a 69 to finish at three-under-par total and is tied for 50th. The cut was made at two-under-par and 73 players will contest the final two rounds for their share of the US$1.5 million of prizemoney on offer. Unfortunately for Queensland s Sarah Jane Smith (71) she missed the cut by one, while New South Wales Julia Boland (75) finished at four-over-par. Defending champion Yani Tseng made it through on the cut number and is tied for 60th place.
