Younan-Wise triumphant at Mission Hills

Australian Jake Younan-Wise has won the 2007 APGC Mission Hills Open Amateur by three strokes from Yuki Usami from Japan. Younan-Wise fired a final round 71 to hold off his fast-finishing opponent who posted a 66. After blasting a four-under 68 to take the lead into today&aposs final round, the Aussie started in the best possible way, opening with a birdie and doubling his advantage on the fourth. A bogey on the par-five sixth threatened to halt his charge, but the young Australian recovered in style with consecutive birdies. At this stage, his competitors had dropped off, save for Usami who started well behind the Aussie. But the Japanese competitor fired five birdies on the front nine to pose a threat. More birdies on 11 and 15 gave Usami a real sniff, but he could only manage pars on his final three holes to fall three shots behind Younan-Wise who cruised to a well earned victory. Fellow Australian Scott Arnold strung together the second-best round of the day, posting a 68. The round one leader managed to card five birdies before his first blemish on the par-three 15th. Arnold then went on to post a birdie, par and a bogey respectively to finish the event in outright fourth, six shots behind his triumphant countryman. www.missionhills.com.hk Final Leaderboard: 283: Jake Younan-Wise (Aus) 286: Yuki Usaim (Jpn), Tao Huang (Twn) 289: Scott Arnold (Aus) 291: Jung-Ho Yoon (Kor) Other Australians 309: Brett Rankin 324: Alexander Lau Click here to view a full leaderboard.
