Young amateur upstages seasoned pros

Young amateur Brett Rankin has upstaged his more senior rivals to take a one-shot lead after the opening round of the Queensland Open. Rankin fired an opening round of 64 to open up a one shot lead on Andrew Duffin at eight-under-par, while a further shot back at six-under was Anthony Johnson, Craig Scott, Ryan Haller and Chris Gray. The feature of Rankin&aposs round was an eagle on the final hole, the 21-year-old ecstatic to be leading after the opening day&aposs play. “I was stoked with the way I played today, I stayed really composed and patient throughout the round,” Rankin said. Tournament drawcards Peter Senior and Lucas Parsons are still well in contention, the pair shooting opening rounds of 69 to be just five from the lead.
