Jack Noonan from Kooringal Golf Club and Danielle Hu from Peninsula Kingswood Golf Club have taken out the 2014 Kevin Hartley Kooringal Junior Boys and the 2014 Winn Lloyd Kooringal Girls Championships respectively. In a field full of youth and talent both trophies were always going to be closely contested.
Danielle was able to secure the Girls Championship with a score of 87, narrowly defeating both Piper Stubbs (Bairnsdale Golf Club) and Kay Bannan (Southern Golf Club) who finished equal second on a score of 88. In the girls handicap division we had Ashni Solanki from Kingston Heath Golf Club taking out the title with a nett score of 71 and Tiana Wanigasekera from Spring Valley leading the girls Stableford division with an unimaginably 50 points.
The Boys Championship was an even narrower affair with both the eventual winner Jack Noonan and Northern Golf Club young gun Nathan Page both finishing on a score of 80. Even though Jack took home the Kevin Hartley Trophy Nathan was able to secure his age division by a comfortable 4 shots. In the boys handicap section we had Seve Jones from Huntingdale Golf Club taking the title home with a nett score of 68 and Corey Zelez from Kooringal Golf Club taking the boys Stableford title with 42 points.
In conjuction with the Kooringal Junior Tournament, School Sport Victoria was holding their TEAM VIC 12 YEARS & UNDER BOYS & GIRLS GOLF STATE TEAM SELECTION TRIALS. The top 8 boys and leading 4 girls from the trial have been selected to compete at the National Championships to be held in Brisbane from November 9 – 13, 2014.
