Some of the State s best young golfing talent will be on display this Sunday as both the Eric Apperly Shield and Junior Pennants are decided. Cronulla GC will host the Apperly Final to be contested by The Australian GC and Bonnie Doon GC, whilst Cronulla s Junior Pennant side have qualified along with Bankstown GC to fight for the flag at Liverpool GC. Apperly Shield The Australian GC qualified for the Apperly Finals series courtesy of a near perfect preliminary series, dropping just three individual points on their way to a 5-0 record. Particularly impressive were the wins against last year s finalists Castle Hill CC and the highly rated Concord GC side, giving up just one point in each. A solid 3.5/1.5 quarter final win over Mona Vale GC saw them into the semi-finals where they defeated a talented New South Wales GC team 4/1. With State Team representatives Daniel Bringolf and Ricky Kato, joining Junior Development program member Grant Booth, Adrian Lee and Nick Fuller, The Australian will be hard to beat come Sunday. Bonnie Doon GC had to overcome a last round challenge from Pymble GC to win 3/2.5 and qualify for the finals with a 4-0 record. Prior to the last round the team had gone through undefeated recording three perfect 5.5/0 wins. Since entering the Finals they have achieved two wins of 4/1 over Pennant Hills GC and last year s champions St Michael s in the quarter and semi-finals respectively. Boasting Australian representative and State Team members Jordan Zunic and Reuben Sondjaja along with form golfers Michael Williams, Troy Moses and Mitch Gannon, Bonnie Doon will be confident of returning home with the Pennant. Play will commence at Cronulla Golf Club from 9.15am Sunday morning. Junior Pennant Bankstown GC qualified for the Junior Pennant semi-finals after finishing their preliminary rounds with a 4-0 record including a win over the highly talented St Michael s team. Coming up against last year s finalists Avondale GC in the semi-final, the Bankstown side consisting of Junior State Team members Mitch Venables and Kevin Yuan, State Junior Development squad member Thomas Punnett, Jack Carmichael and Austin Bautista were too good taking out a 4/1 victory. With players in form and full of confidence they will look to continue their form on Sunday. Cronulla GC are the great unknowns in the Junior Pennant Final. After tough preliminary round wins against North Ryde and Cabramatta, they managed to qualify for the semi-finals with a 4-0 record with 16 individual points. Their challenge in the semi-final was to be Pymble , who in the end were outclassed to the tune of 5/0 with no match proceeding past the 14th hole. The team of Cripps, Zhang, Inskip, Convoy and Liddy will be out to carry on on their winning ways come Sunday. Play will commence at 12.15pm at Liverpool Golf Club on Sunday.
