Records Fly at Murray River Junior Masters

The 2014 Murray River Junior Masters has finished in style with both the boys and girls winners recording tournament records. The weather for the week was near perfect with only slight breezes on Thursday and Friday to keep the players on their toes.

Cranbourne’s David Micheluzzi closed with a brilliant 3 under-par 69 to finish on a 72-hole tally of a remarkable 11 under-par. His nearest challenger was Matias Sanchez who led at the halfway mark and carded a 71 today for a total of 1 under-par.

Kono Matsumoto reeled in the round three leader in Vanessa Bouvet to overcome her 2 stroke overnight deficit and successfully defend her title for 2014. Like Micheluzzi, Matsumoto fired an impressive 3 under-par 69 for a total of 289 to break the former tournament record of 292 that was held by Bianca Ling and Reanna Matthews.

The Cranbourne pair of Caleb Johnson and Ashleigh Hall were standouts all week and finished tied for the overall nett component – both broke their handicaps by a stellar 16 strokes over the four rounds.

SAJG and Golf Victoria wish to thank all involved in the tournament, and particularly the host clubs of Cobram Barooga and Tocumwal, in making 2014 such a great success.
