The Latrobe Golf Club in conjunction with Golf Victoria and the Mansfield family is pleased to advise of the twelfth annual Garry Mansfield Charity Golf Day.
The event will be played at the Latrobe Golf Club on Thursday 9 May 2013 featuring both an individual stableford for men and women and a two person teams aggregate competition played concurrently. The entry fee will be $30 or Latrobe members and $60 per person (Inc. GST) for all other players and includes lunch/after golf snacks.
As many Clubs and Districts would be aware, Garry Mansfield was a journalist with the Herald–Sun for over 30 years. In addition, Garry contributed an enormous amount to the Victorian Golf Association, the Latrobe Golf Club and Victorian Amateur golf in general, particularly in the role as editor of the Golf Victoria magazine since January 1983.
A low single figure player for most of his amateur career, he regularly participated in a wide range of amateur events including Australian and Victorian Amateurs, Ivo Whitton open amateurs, the Victorian Foursomes and Mixed Foursomes and the Sir Dallas Brooks Mixed Foursomes. Garry also played VGA Pennant from 1967 until 2001 and was a member Latrobe’s five winning senior teams during this time.
Garry passed away in September 2001 following a lengthy battle with throat cancer. The purpose of this Charity Golf Day is to raise funds for the battle against throat cancer through Garry’s favorite pastime, Golf. Proceeds raised from the day will be donated to the St Vincent’s Hospital Foundation.
Entry forms for the golf event are attached to this memorandum. It would be appreciated if all Clubs and Districts could encourage participation in this day by placing entry forms in prominent positions in both the mens and ladies locker rooms and the Pro Shop (if applicable). Ideally, it would be advantageous if as many Clubs and Districts as possible were represented in the event. Any further promotion which Clubs or Districts could provide such as articles in newsletters, announcements at major presentations, meetings etc. would be greatly appreciated.
Should any Club or District have further queries about the event, please do not hesitate to contact the Golf Victoria office.
