Eastern Golf Club has won the 2013 Bronze Teams’ Event on a team score of 91 stableford points to finish 9 points clear of their nearest competitors.
The Bronze Teams’ Event is now into its 46th year after first commencing in 1967 with the Yarra Yarra taking home the inaugural title. The event was introduced to provide higher handicap markers the opportunity to play in a State level event. The nett aggregate competition comprises of teams of three players with handicaps ranging from 19 to 38 strokes.
This year’s title was played over the Croydon Golf Club at the newly designed and picturesque 27-hole Yering Meadows layout in the Yarra Valley. The 23 teams that took to the course this morning were presented with calm scoring conditions, albeit dry and relatively hot weather.
19 marker, Sharon Bridgman, led the way for Eastern with a stellar 36 points on the perfectly manicured course where accuracy from tee too green is crucial to navigate the water hazards which are in play on 15 of the 18 holes. Bridgman was well supported by Magda Shepley (24) and Kooiyong Tjangdjaja (26) who both chimed in with 30 and 25 points respectively.
In addition to taking home the Bronze Teams’ Cup, Bridgman also grabbed the honours in the individual section after her handicap levelling round this morning.
Southern golf club finished in outright second after 82 aggregate stableford points. The team of three was steered by Nieo Vatanopast who fired 31 points off a handicap of 20, who consequently finished runner-up in the individual section. Both Peninsula and Heritage rounded out third on a team total of 74 points.
Golf Victoria wishes to extend a sincere thanks to The Croydon Golf Club at Yering Meadows and their staff for their continued support towards golf in Victoria.
