Bright Golf Club wins Doris Chambers Cup at Gisborne

Bernardette Wickes and Christine O’Shea  scored 40 points to take the honours in the second final at this picturesque but challenging golf course. 85 Victorian golf clubs were represented at this final of the traditional foursomes stableford event that has been running since 1950.

Despite a heavy downpour the night before, the golf course was playable and presented in good condition. I was a very cold start for the morning field and a 3 way count back decided the winners and runners up, with Goonawarra GC (Kathie Rindfleish & Lyn Clancy) taking first place followed by Box Hill (Louise Dawborne & Claire Henderson). Milder conditions in the afternoon helped the scoring and it was Bright indeed that claimed top spot – not only for the afternoon field but also for the overall. Queenscliff Golf Club (Julie Welch & Fay Neville) were deserving runners up in the afternoon.
Overall, it was an enjoyable day for all participants who were welcomed and well looked after by the Gisborne Golf Club Women’s Committee, Club Manager Michael Crough and all other staff members. On behalf of the players a big thank you to the entire team!
