208 players from 75 different clubs across Victoria gathered at Royal Melbourne Golf Club on Sunday 27 September in support of the annual Victorian Golf Foundation Golf Day. Clear blue skies and sunshine were the order of the day, with the gentlest of southerly breezes creating ideal playing conditions on the renowned West course.
First played in 1988, the Victorian Golf Foundation Annual Golf Day is played at Royal Melbourne in late September each year to raise funds for the Educational and Golf Development of talented Victorian Junior Golfers and junior golf development projects and initiatives undertaken within Victoria.
In the morning field, Howard Hsu (RACV) and Jason Lee (Box Hill) returned the superb score of 48 pts to take the men’s competition in the Four-Ball Best Ball event. The National’s Matthew Razga and Michael Di Camillo were close runners-up with 47 pts.
The women’s competition was taken out by Mary-Anne Davis, a six marker from Murray Downs and Southern’s Geraldine O’Callagan playing from a handicap of 2 with a score of 41 pts. The mixed competition was won by Mother and Son combination Sue Edwards (Rich River) and Mathew Edwards (Gisborne) with 42 pts.
The perfect conditions continued into the afternoon with Orbost’s Lex Taylor and Cameron Scott from Latrobe taking out the men’s competition with a score of 44 pts. A stellar back nine of 26 pts saw the pair win on countback from Steven Argiris of Sanctuary Lakes and Eastwood’s Jabin Russell and Sandringham’s Jonathan Graves partnered with Raymond Pund from Warragul.
Golf Victoria extends its sincere thanks to all players that participated in the event and to the Royal Melbourne Golf Club for their continued support of the Victorian Golf Foundation.
