Golf NSW Council Member Maggie O’Donnell passed away on February 8 after battling a long illness, aged 73.
Maggie was one of Golf NSW’s inaugural Council Members, serving from 2010 until the present day following the amalgamation of Women’s Golf NSW and NSW Golf Association. She served as a Women’s Golf NSW Council Member and NHDLGA Delegate from 2009-2010.
“As you meander through life you meet people, make friends and then you meet special people that become special, precious friends and Maggie became one of those people in my life,” said close friend and NHDLGA Vice-President Dee Deitz. “She was a cherished and beautiful friend.”
Maggie began her love affair with golf after encouraging her husband Wayne to take up the game in 2002. She joined Charlestown Golf Club in 2003 and became involved on the Ladies Committee soon after. In 2005 She was elected Secretary and held the position for five years. She stepped back as Assistant Secretary in 2010 then took on the Vice President’s role in 2011-2012, becoming President in 2013-14. She also served on the Board of Directors of Charlestown Golf Club between 2008 and 2011.
Over 400 people attended her funeral service which was held on Friday, 12th February at Ryhope Memorial Gardens, Ryhope.
