Aussie Amateur Update

Matthew Giles is still equal-second after the third round of the World Junior Championship at Torrey Pines, San Diego. The defending champion carded a 73 to trail runaway leader Dylan Frittelli by seven shots. Countryman Daniel Nisbet is in a share of 14th after a disappointing third round of 79 to be six-over for the championship. Bryden MacPherson was unable to capitalise on a sublime 67 in the second round, going around the famous Torrey Pines layout in 80 today. He is nine-over for the championship. In the girls section, Whitney Hillier has jumped into fifth place with scores of 72 80 and a superb 69. The West Australian is one-under for the event, nine behind Ha-na Jang of Korea. Click here to view all leaderboards In the North and South Women&aposs Championship, all Australians qualified for the match play section, however all have since been eliminated. Kate Combes, Clare Choi and Kristie Smith were beaten in the first round while Victorian Emma Bennett was downed in the quarter-final. At the Southern Amateur, Rich Gallichan and Rudi Bezuidenhout have made ground on the leader after shooting second round 69&aposs. Gallichan is at four-under the card while Bezuidenhout is a further stroke back, tied for 27th. The Australian team to compete in the Nomura Cup has been selected and it includes Rick Kulacz, Tim Stewart, Rohan Blizard and Andrew Dodt. The Nomura Cup will be played at Sunrise Country Club in Taiwan from October 2-5.
