Geoff Ogilvy has stormed into contention at the PODS Championship in Tampa Bay with a two-under par third round of 69 placing him in a tie for second spot. After being seven shots adrift of day two leader Jeff Maggert – who has since self-imploded to presently be two over par after being eight under at the end of the second day – Ogilvy (three under) trails new leader Stewart Cink by two shots. Americans Brandt Snedeker and Billy Mayfair are level with Ogilvy in second. While the Aussie managed to complete the round, Snedker and Mayfair were both stranded at the 15th hole before play at the tournament was once again prematurely suspended, this time due to darkness. Ogilvy picked up birdies at the 8th, 11th and 13th holes with a bogey on the 12th proving to be his only blemish for the round. Like the Aussie, Cink carded a two-under par round of 69 to be the tournament leader with a score of five under. The American claimed a hat-trick of birdies from the 10th to the 12th holes and a bogey at the death on the 18th deprived him of a faultless day. After registering a total of four bogeys in the first two rounds, Snedeker already has five bogeys on his card after 15 holes in a progressive two-over par third round with three birdies at the 1st, 5th and 7th holes keeping him in contention. Mayfair, on the other hand, has had a less turbulent round three with birdies on the 1st and 13th holes and bogeys on the 7th and 11th ensuring he is even with three holes to play. Steve Elkington, Rod Pampling and Stuart Appleby – who was three under after two rounds – are the next best Aussies on one over. Matthew Goggin, Nathan Green and John Senden are further back on plus two.
