Play has commenced on schedule in the second round of The Australian Open at Royal Sydney Golf Club. After solid rain yesterday afternoon, a break in the weather and warming temperatures have combined to recover the course in excellent fashion. Championship Director Trevor Herden said he was pleased with the way the course was looking. “It&aposs testament to the quality of this course and the people that look after it that it recovers so quickly and in such excellent condition after a soaking,” Herden said. “Play is underway and we&aposre looking forward to a super Saturday&aposs play.” England&aposs Simon Griffiths had the early highlight of the day with a sensational ace at the Par-3 17th hole. Of the players still to complete their second round, New Zealand&aposs David Smail is 1-under with 8 holes to play and gives him a share of 4th position with Matt Jones and Rod Pampling. Robert Allenby has also moved up the leaderboard to be tied with nine other players at 5-under for the championship. Geoff Ogilvy sits at even par with four holes to play in his second round.
