Whitaker seals LPGA Final Qualifying spot

Final Results Duke University 2010 graduate and Golf Australia National Squad member Alison Whitaker finished tied for 19th at the LPGA Sectional Qualifying School at the Bobcat and Panther Courses in Venice, Florida on Friday to advance to the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament in December. Whitaker, who is from Melbourne, carded rounds of 70, 74, 78 and 71 to finish with a 293. Her one-under-par, 71, was key in the final round to move to tied for 19th. She was a two-time All-ACC selection and member of the 2007 NCAA Champion Duke women&aposs golf team. The Florida sectional was the second of two sectional Q-Schools. The first sectional qualifier was held two weeks ago in California, advancing 30 players from that event into the LPGA&aposs final stage. After four rounds at each of the 72-hole qualifiers, the top-30 players and ties from each sectional will now advance into the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament. Sectional qualifiers will be joined at the final stage of Q-school by current LPGA Tour members attempting to improve their status for 2011, along with players finishing Nos. 6-10, and the next top 10 players on the 2010 Duramed FUTURES Tour money list (who do not already have LPGA status). The LPGA&aposs Final Qualifying Tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla., will be contested over 90 holes, with a cut made after 72 holes to the low 70 and ties. It will take place from Dec. 8-12, 2010.
