www.worldamateur2010.org The Australian team of Matt Jager (WA), Kieran Pratt (VIC) and Bryden Macpherson (VIC) have begun well and are in a tie for sixth place following the opening round of the World Amateur Team Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Jager recovered from a bogey on the 5th hole and had five birdies between holes 6 and 15. A double bogey and bogey on the 16th and 17th left him at 1-under for the round. Pratt made the turn at 1-under par but a birdie and two bogeys on the back nine left him at even par for his round. Bryden Macpherson endured a challenging opening round posting a 10-over par 82 which was non-counting. France leads the championship at 7-under par following rounds of 68 (-4) for Alexander Levy and 69 (-3) for Romain Wattel. The Australians will play at Olivos Golf Club in the second round which begins on Friday night (AEDST). Each team has two or three players and plays 18 holes of stroke play for four days. In each round, the total of the two lowest scores from each team constitutes the team score for the round. The four-day (72-hole) total is the team s score for the championship. A total of 69 teams have entered the men’s section of the World Amateur Team Championships. Organised by the International Golf Federation, teams of men and women come from all over the world to compete for the Eisenhower Trophy (men) and Espirito Santo Trophy (women) within three different zones: Asia Pacific, America and Europe & Africa. Players must be amateur golfers and follow the rules of The R&A or United States Golf Association.
