Defending champion Annie Choi (KOR) and New South Wales’ Cathleen Santoso extended their lead to four strokes in the second round of the Australian Girls’ Amateur Championship at Newcastle Golf Club.

Choi and Santoso have matched scores so far with the pair shooting rounds of 73 and 72 to be at 1-under par and four strokes ahead of Queensland’s Emily McLennan and Western Australia’s Hayley Bettencourt who fired the low round of the championship so far with a 3-under par 70.

To add to her excellent round, Bettencourt aced the par 3 16th hole.

Four players are tied in fifth place at 4-over par including Jaimee Dougan (QLD), Chantal Hodson (NSW), Aliza Huff (NSW) and Su-Hyun Oh (KOR).

Queensland’s Elmay Viking is a further shot back at 5-over par in outright ninth.

The final round begins on Friday.

Australia’s number one ranked junior and Srixon Australian Men’s Stroke Play champion Cameron Smith (QLD) shone at Carnarvon Golf Club with a 5-under par 67 to take him to the top of the leaderboard at the Australian Boys’ Amateur Championship.

Following an opening round 1-over par 73, Smith recovered to shoot 67 and is at 4-under par and three strokes ahead of fellow Junior National Squad member Jake Higginbottom (NSW).

Higginbottom’s scores of 73 and 70 has him at 1 under par.

Jordan McCarthy from Queensland sits alone in third place on even par, after a second round of 68, where he was 4 under on the front nine.

A group of five players are in fourth position at 1 over par, including Oliver Goss from WA, and Queensland’s Kade McBride who matched Smith’s low round of 67.

The 36-hole cut was 12-over par. 63 players will contest rounds 3 and 4 on Friday.
